Day 11
Overview
Luca races from London to Paris after a taunting message and his mother’s odd voicemail about cookies. Reviewing hostel footage, he recognizes the letter-dropper as his supposedly dead father, Sandro. In Paris, Luca finds his mother poisoned by cyanide-laced cookies; paramedics save her. The revelation reframes Telma’s abduction and raises the stakes.
Summary
After a taunting message urges him to “hurry” to France and a voicemail in which his mother thanks him for cookies he never sent, Luca panics. He leaves Liv, borrows cash for a Eurostar ticket, and races to the station, repeatedly failing to reach his mother or neighbor by phone.
On the train, Luca reviews his hostel corridor camera. A capped man returns to deliver another letter. When the train exits the tunnel and the signal returns, the man intentionally shows his face. Luca recognizes him: Sandro Portaluppi, his father, presumed dead for ten years.
Haunted by memories of their old house and Telma’s disappearance, Luca sprints to his mother’s apartment in Paris. He finds her unconscious on the floor and calls emergency services. He pockets an envelope addressed to him before riding in the ambulance as paramedics stabilize her.
At the hospital, a doctor suspects cyanide poisoning in chocolate cookies, framed as a possible suicide. Luca concludes the blackmailer targeted his mother and fears the campaign will destroy his family. Exhausted, he messages Liv and falls asleep in the corridor, clutching the letter, determined to find Telma.
