As the hellhound threat erupts, Lord Davis orders the Awakened Scions and Squires into battle formation and sends the Pages back to the Lodge. Bree freezes long enough to see the Legendborn discard their robes, draw weapons, and summon aether-made blades and armor. She recognizes one of the armored Scions as Evan Cooper, Charlotte’s boyfriend, before Nick orders Bree to run.

Bree flees alone into the forest but loses the other Pages and cannot find the Lodge. A second, more intelligent demon confronts Bree in the dark. The creature speaks, says Bree will help them, and carries Bree back to the Chapel instead of killing Bree immediately.

At the Chapel, the Legendborn and Davis have cornered the second hellhound. The demon holding Bree calls for the Pendragon, and Davis tries to protect Nick by claiming to be the one the demon seeks. The demon wounds Bree, identifies Nick as the true target, and demands that the Legendborn give Nick up. When Davis attacks, the demon easily seizes Davis by the throat and threatens to kill both Davis and Bree before taking Nick.

Sel arrives and attacks the demon, forcing the creature to drop Bree and throw Davis aside. Sarah pulls Bree to safety while Sel and the demon fight with inhuman speed and strength. William, the healer, uses silver aether-like liquid to revive the badly injured Davis, easing the group’s panic.

While everyone focuses on Davis, Nick takes his father’s sword and charges the demon in fury. Sel has the demon pinned and warns Nick to back off, but Nick swings anyway. The demon breaks Sel’s ankle, catches Nick by the throat, slams Nick into the stone, and leaves Nick motionless. Bree rushes the demon at the same moment Sel swings Nick’s sword, and together they decapitate the creature.
