An epigraph notes Tleilaxu secrecy is embedded even in their sperm, immune to Ixian probing. On Rakis, in Sheeana’s fourth sanctuary year, Tamalane receives a report: Sheeana orders two condemned prisoners “brought back,” rebukes priests for feeding people to “Shaitan,” and has the pair cleaned and released, signaling protection of commoners.

Tamalane predicts priestly adjustments: overt worm sacrifices decline while whippings and ration deprivations, especially water, increase. Rumors swell as stories of children visiting Sheeana and the returned prisoners fuel a directed mythology. The Bene Gesserit seed slogans casting Sheeana as the awaited one who will chastise priests, provoking street violence and priestly crackdowns.

A delegation led by Stiros confronts Sheeana; she forces them to say “Shaitan,” scolds their ignorance, and asserts that god and devil may both inhabit a worm. Tamalane records Tuek’s private debates with Stiros: Tuek flirts with a doctrine of the Divided God as a moral test, while Stiros schemes to eavesdrop and to maneuver Sheeana back into desert tests.

Homesick and prodded, Sheeana revisits her lost village’s sands, summons a worm with a thumper, demands answers, and dismisses it. Thereafter she intermittently goes alone to the desert, questions worms about loyalty, punishment, and freedom, and learns the effective command “Go away,” which even worms obey, cementing her authority.

Priests build self-sufficient desert towers to observe her, expanding settled zones and crediting Sheeana. Affection around her grows into expanding worship as people pray to Sheeana rather than Shai-hulud or Shaitan. Stiros balks at harming her; Tuek wavers but protects her. Tamalane reports the planet-wide shift and asks Chapter House: when will they send the ghola?
