Overview
At a raucous frat party, Belly overhears Lacie boasting about a spring break hookup with Jeremiah. Confronted, Jeremiah admits he had sex with Lacie during their brief breakup. Shattered, Belly slaps him, ends the night by leaving him, and later sobs over his apologetic texts, signaling a major rupture in their relationship.
Summary
Late that night at the frat party, Belly and Jeremiah flirt and dance amid drunken chaos. A prank by Tom spills beer on Belly’s dress, sending her upstairs to clean up. Outside the bathroom, Belly overhears Lacie bragging about a Cabo hookup and realizes it might be Jeremiah.
Reeling, Belly finds Jeremiah and forces a private confrontation. When Belly asks if he hooked up with Lacie over spring break, Jeremiah turns pale and finally admits it happened during their “break.” Belly argues the breakup wasn’t real to her and accuses him of betraying what they had.
Jeremiah first calls it a mistake, then, promising honesty, confesses they had sex. Shocked and sick, Belly slaps him and rejects his attempts to comfort her, saying he’s destroyed her trust. Jeremiah insists he loves only Belly, but she tells him what they had is gone and leaves.
Belly runs to the bus and returns to her empty dorm room, where she turns off her phone. Before bed, she reads Jeremiah’s remorseful texts—apologies and declarations of love—and cries harder, consumed by hurt and disbelief.
