39. Ryan

Ryan paces in shock after reacting badly to a positive pregnancy test he assumed was Indy’s. He admits he blacked out, triggered by memories of Marissa’s fake pregnancy and the hospital revelation. He recognizes he treated Indy as if she were Marissa and fears he ruined a moment she has always wanted.

Before Ryan can chase Indy, his twin sister Stevie rushes in, frantically searching the apartment. When Ryan shows her the test, Stevie reveals it is hers; she took multiple tests there while the apartment was empty. She is pregnant and plans to tell Zanders today, asking to be the one to share the news with Indy.

Ryan is overwhelmed—happy for Stevie but gutted by how he misread the situation. He recalls Indy’s parting words about infertility and realizes his reaction likely made Indy believe he doesn’t want the same future. Stevie challenges him to be honest if their goals don’t align.

Ryan affirms he does want a family with Indy and would never string her along. He intends to find Indy and apologize, but agrees to let Stevie speak to Indy first. The chapter closes with mutual reassurance: Ryan will be a devoted uncle, and, in time, a good father.
