30. Ryan

Ryan wakes draped over Indy after a night of intense intimacy, savoring their closeness even as a looming press conference cuts short their desire. Over breakfast, they flirt about his sneaker design and love languages before Indy presents a comprehensive plan for the youth foundation Ryan once envisioned, outlining summer programs, meals, court restorations, and growth projections. Ryan is deeply moved, praises her intelligence, and learns more about her business background and why she became a flight attendant.

Despite his knee injury, Ryan attends the home game to support the team. In a long press conference he maintains composure, then on the bench he coaches rookie Leon through defending Toronto’s point guard, identifying tendencies and footwork tells. Leon applies the advice, creates turnovers, and the coach commends Ryan’s leadership, restoring Ryan’s sense of self.

After the win, Indy waits in Ryan’s family area wearing his jersey and newly embroidered sneakers with his number. They kiss, are briefly seen by GM Ron Morgan—who praises Ryan and mentions meeting in Phoenix—and agree to see each other there if schedules align.

Outside, Alex appears and asks to talk. Ryan protectively inserts himself, but Indy grants Alex five minutes. Forced to leave with the team, Ryan spirals with insecurity about where he stands. From the tarmac he calls Indy; she’s tearful and says she’s processing the end of twenty-two years. Pressed for time, Ryan chooses to give her space, ending the call anxious that he may have misread their future.
