Overview

Indy comes home eager to share good news but finds Ryan shaken, holding a positive pregnancy test. His fear prompts a hurtful, implied suspicion, fracturing their trust. Indy clarifies she is not pregnant and, stung by the accusation and their misaligned desires, walks out, leaving their relationship in crisis.

Summary

Indy rushes home after four days apart, excited to see Ryan and to share that her parents are visiting soon. Instead, she finds Ryan sitting despondent in the entryway. When Indy tries to lighten the mood, Ryan silently holds up a positive pregnancy test.

Ryan, overwhelmed and scared, asks how long Indy has known, implicitly questioning her intentions. Indy, shocked by the insinuation, presses him to say what he means. Ryan backpedals, saying he is exhausted and not reacting well, but the damage is done; Indy is hurt that he’d think she might have trapped him.

Indy calmly states she is not pregnant and adds that it would be a miracle if it ever happened, a reminder of her fertility worries and how deeply she wants a family. She notes their ongoing mismatch in desires, while Ryan struggles to process the situation and asks for a moment to get his head around it.

Feeling betrayed and unwilling to convince another partner to want what she wants, Indy takes her keys and leaves, telling Ryan to take all the time he needs. Ryan calls after her, but she walks out, leaving their relationship strained and uncertain.
