2. Indy
Overview
Indy initially refuses to move in with Ryan but, pressured by safety, finances, and her desire to heal after Alex’s betrayal, she agrees. After a swift move, Indy’s clutter collides with Ryan’s rigorously minimal home. Ryan returns early, rebuffs her attempts at friendliness, and sets a cold boundary: coexistence only.
Summary
Indy rejects Stevie’s plan for her to move in with Ryan, citing his aloofness and their awkward past meetings. Stevie presses, worried about Indy’s unsafe, low-budget options and promising to mediate. Indy wrestles with returning to Chicago after Alex’s infidelity and the pull between leaving again or facing her pain to heal.
Weighing safety, affordability, and her promotion to lead flight attendant with the Raptors, Indy decides to accept Ryan’s offer. She quickly empties her hotel room and storage, then enters a stark, meticulously minimal apartment that underscores both her lack of belongings and Ryan’s rigid lifestyle.
As Indy tries to organize, spreading clothes across the living room, Ryan returns early from an event in a suit. Struck by his appearance but desperate to make a decent impression, she offers breakfast, lunch, or coffee to break the ice; Ryan shuts each attempt down, visibly irritated by the disorder.
Ryan sets the terms bluntly: he didn’t want her there, is only helping for Stevie’s sake, and expects strict coexistence with no friendship. Indy absorbs the rebuff, realizing their living arrangement begins under tense, emotionally distant conditions.
