35. Ryan
Overview
Ryan returns from injury under intense playoff pressure, steadies his nerves, and reasserts on-court leadership. After a slow start he finds rhythm, sparks a decisive win, and balances pressure with positivity. Publicly affirming his family and Indy courtside, he’s bolstered by Indy’s fierce defense of him toward the referees.
Summary
Ryan fields repetitive pre-game questions about making the playoffs after a month-long knee layoff, feeling anxious but determined. In the tunnel, he reframes the team’s mindset: acknowledge the must-win stakes but prioritize playing freely. The team’s energy lifts as they charge onto the court.
During introductions, Ryan breaks routine to greet courtside family—fist-bumping Zanders, kissing his sister Stevie’s cheek, and kissing Indy—publicly affirming his priorities before refocusing on the game.
Early minutes are shaky as Ryan subconsciously favors his healthy leg, causing turnovers. By the second quarter he commits to playing unafraid and regains rhythm. With a late lead and limited minutes planned, he stays aggressive, testing speed and decision-making.
In transition, Ryan chooses not to play scared, elevates for a one-handed dunk, and lands cleanly despite a missed foul call. Indy explodes at the referees, loudly defending him, which Ryan appreciates while staying composed. Teammates Dom and Ethan tease him about Indy’s intensity; Ryan embraces it.
Chicago closes out a 17-point win. Ryan proves his readiness, reinforces leadership through calm messaging, and balances personal stakes with team focus as the playoff push resumes.
