7. Theon

Theon meets Valter, already strained by distance from Tessa. Valter probes the new bond, crudely implies Theon should be grateful for a female Source, and demands results at the Acropolis. When Theon bristles at Valter’s threat to “lend out” Tessa for deals, Valter overpowers him with shadows, Eviana’s vines, and a magic-draining ring, reminding Theon who holds control.

Left bound, Theon questions Eviana about submission to the bond. She taunts that Tessa will eventually crave him, implying desire may be manufactured by the bond. After Eviana releases him, Theon hurries to the east wing. Luka reports Tessa refused Theon’s bed. Theon checks on the sleeping Tessa, calms the bond with a touch, and debates with Luka about altered plans.

Preparing the final step of the first Mark, Luka mixes Theon’s blood with tonic. When Theon wakes Tessa, the bond surges and she unexpectedly kisses him, then recoils in horror. Theon explains they must give the additional dose. Despite Tessa’s pleas, Luka restrains her and Theon Entrances her stillness, injecting the elixir slowly into her neck.

Tessa screams, then endures hours of vomiting shadows and silver wisps. Theon comforts her on the bathroom floor as Luka assists with water and blankets. Luka presses Theon to change strategy, arguing Tessa’s strength will alter everything; Theon refuses, insisting the plan must stand.

Between bouts of sickness, Tessa asks about Valter’s threat to “loan” her out. Theon promises it will never happen, though he and Luka know Valter’s ruthlessness. Exhausted, Tessa asks to return to bed. Theon resolves that her suffering is necessary to secure their goals, despite mounting doubts around him.
