Overview
Theon, strung tight by the bond with Tessa and recent threats, learns Tristyn is not mortal but a Legacy mingling with her on the dance floor. To avoid exposing their full powers, Theon, Luka, and Axel stage control rather than attack. After Tristyn’s cryptic warning to Tessa, Theon publicly claims her, and they perform an intimate dance to project a superior bond, escalating political tensions and personal stakes.
Summary
Theon, irritable and consumed by his bond with Tessa, struggles with desire he refuses to force, seeing it as a line separating him from becoming his father. Drained from rescuing Tessa and taking her blood, he avoids her to keep control and manages alliance-building at the social while brooding over recent failures and anger.
Luka and Axel press Theon to release tension and focus. Luka reveals Felicity Davers’s presence, then the real news: Tristyn—the supposed mortal from Rockmoor—is here, a Legacy, and currently dancing with Tessa. Theon’s fury spikes, but Axel and Luka restrain him, arguing that a public display of raw power would expose them and signal loss of control over Tessa.
They agree to play the optics: show known shadow control while implying an alliance. Theon sends shadows to Tessa as a possessive signal, then confronts Tristyn at song’s end. Tristyn remains poised, trading barbs and recalling Rockmoor. Before leaving, he gives Tessa a hushed ultimatum—“Destruction or salvation, wild fury”—hinting at deeper knowledge of her potential.
