Overview
Theon, Luka, and a sick, newly Marked Tessa travel toward Arius House. Tessa’s pain and resistance strain the nascent Source bond as Theon insists on control and contact. A tense roadside stop escalates to a breakdown and a storm, forcing Entrancement. Tessa grudgingly yields, hardening their adversarial dynamic.
Summary
Before dawn, Theon rides in an SUV through the Arius Kingdom with Tessa asleep and ill beside him while Luka drives. Security around portals and the long route home underscore their isolation. Theon reflects on choosing Tessa despite Luka’s warnings, recalling how her cleverness, evasions, and defiant honesty drew him over the favored candidate Jaxson.
The bond’s first Mark has left Tessa in severe pain and Theon depleted. Tension grows as Luka questions the plan and Theon insists the bond will ensure obedience. When Tessa wakes—sore, dehydrated, and wary—she places distance between them, intensifying the bond’s pull.
They stop in a mortal town. Tessa clings to Luka, upsetting Theon. A petty conflict over shoes escalates until Luka buys flip-flops to reduce Tessa’s skin pain. Tessa locks Theon out of the car; he Entrances her, but she outmaneuvers him by unlocking the opposite door. Inside a restroom, her sobbing reveals that even fabric hurts; Theon dresses her in looser clothes and carries her back.
On the road again, Tessa refuses to lie against Theon. When he threatens force, she snaps, screaming and yanking her hair as a sudden downpour hammers the car. Theon stops her by commanding her with her full name; she collapses into his arms while Luka drives on.
As they near Sinvons Lake, Tessa asks if Entrancement will be Theon’s answer to disobedience. He insists she comply for the bond’s sake and calls her childish. She stops resisting and answers, “As you wish, Master,” signaling reluctant submission and a deepening, combative bond as they continue toward Arius House.
