Chapter Seventy-Nine
Overview
Mikail reclaims the Flaming Sword, then leads a daring strike to capture the Water Scepter from a vulnerable Weian ship. The team narrowly survives the harbor’s collapsing waters and escapes by skiff. When Mikail asks Fallador to wield the scepter, Gambria reveals neither sibling can—because Mikail is the true Gayan royal.
Summary
Mikail gallops to the sunken isle at Quu Harbor as chaos rages. He kills Thom Salosa to reclaim his Flaming Sword, then turns to protect Royo and the unconscious Aeri while General Vikal decides between attacking them or defending Quilimar. When the Khitan guard rallies to the queen, Vikal chooses Quilimar and sprints away to shield her.
Seeing the Weian scepter bearer isolated and straining to hold back the sea, Mikail resolves to seize the Water Scepter. Sora and Royo insist on staying together and load Aeri onto Sora’s horse. On the Weian ship, Mikail duels elite guards, aided by Royo’s thrown dagger. A sudden rescue by Fallador and Gambria drops the archer and a guard, letting the group board the golden vessel.
With priests dead near the scepter and one guard remaining, Mikail’s fury breaks the last defense. He orders everyone into a wooden escape skiff, then stabs the teenage scepter bearer and grabs the relic. The sea crashes back into the harbor; the skiff nearly capsizes, but they ride out the deluge and all six—Mikail, Sora, Royo, Aeri, Fallador, Gambria—surface alive.
Seeking safety, Mikail kneels and offers the Water Scepter to Fallador to carry them to Gaya. Fallador and Gambria refuse, confessing they cannot wield it. Gambria then reveals the truth: they are not the Gayan royals—Mikail is.
