Overview
In Idle Prison, Tiyung learns his cellmate Ailor is Mikail’s father and that Hana has become the acting royal spymaster. Hana reveals Daysum’s death and cremation, Lord Sterling’s murder, and King Joon’s order for Tiyung’s staged death. She recruits Tiyung and Ailor as troops mobilize north, raising imminent stakes.
Summary
Starving in Idle Prison, Tiyung trades stories with his cellmate Ailor and concludes Ailor is not a plant, though their pairing feels orchestrated. After days without contact, Hana arrives with a small lantern, gaunt and shaken, prompting Tiyung to fear for Sora before Hana confirms Sora is alive.
Hana addresses both men: Ailor doubts her identity until he reveals his son is the royal spymaster, and Hana counters that she is now acting spymaster after Mikail’s fall. She states King Joon ordered Tiyung’s “accidental” death and Ailor’s detention, and she wants their help to protect those they love.
Pressed about her absence, Hana explains she was spreading Daysum’s ashes after a reported laoli overdose in Lord Sterling’s pleasure house; she personally oversaw the cremation and prayers. She then adds Lord Sterling was found murdered with a blade in his neck, with many possible suspects—including Daysum—left unconfirmed.
