Overview
Tristan returns to his father’s office as Callum bursts in and is immediately shot by Adrian, triggering Tristan’s recursive manipulation of time and possibility. Across countless scenarios—reunions, murders, refusals, and futures—Tristan interrogates who he is without his father’s script. He rejects Adrian’s control and, in the final outcome, kills Adrian.
Summary
In Adrian Caine’s office, Callum arrives injured and unmasked, radiating relief at finding Tristan alive. Adrian immediately fires a witch-made pistol; time dilates as Tristan recognizes Callum’s intent to help and his own paralyzing history with power, love, and guilt. In one unfolding, Callum falls, lifeless, while Adrian crows and angles to conscript Tristan.
Tristan, seizing the mechanics of matter and time, begins iterating scenarios: disarming blasts, reframing the weapon, and freezing moments. He plays out futures—brief tenderness with Libby, killing or sparing Adrian, killing or saving Callum, refusing Atlas, dying young, absurd divergences, and somber inevitabilities. These branches expose Tristan’s patterns: running, craving absolution, and mistaking suffering for destiny.
Across loops, he tests bargains and identities—pawn, son, lover, weapon—while Adrian insists Tristan is weak and must choose power or be crushed. The simulations crystallize Tristan’s realization that he wants nothing his father can give: not wealth, rank, or a ready-made fate. He refuses the role of hired gun or heir to brutality.
Returning to the room’s origin, Tristan tends to Callum’s still form, restores his illusions, and lets the ticking in his chest resolve into clarity. As Adrian berates him, Tristan ends the cycle by taking aim and shooting his father, claiming agency beyond Adrian’s bargains and the loops’ coercions.
