Eilif

At Grand Central, Eilif spots a blond man exiting medeian transport, cloaked in layered illusions and wearing distinctive prismatic aviators. Though he is not Nico de Varona, Eilif recognizes traces of the blood-warded house and directs nearby human operatives (“seals”) to pursue. When they hesitate, she personally gives chase and halts the blond man with a siren command.

As the seals move to apprehend, the blond man quietly overrides the moment, spreading a charged stillness through the crowd. Eilif tries to anchor him with her magic, but conflicting emotions—her survival instinct and thoughts of her son, Gideon—leak into her compulsion. She seizes a seal’s rifle and orders the blond man to come with her, intending to trade him as her final leverage.

The blond man lowers his sunglasses, resisting Eilif while simultaneously incapacitating everyone nearby by inducing painlessness. One seal weeps in rapture, the other drops to his knees, and bystanders behave as if bliss-struck. He mentions he learned this technique from a book, references retribution against a vengeful library, and reveals he believes he has six months to live. Brushing against Eilif’s thoughts, he senses the person she protects and finds the familiarity unsettling, unknowingly alluding to Gideon.

As his control fades and the seals begin to stir, Eilif tries to hold him, but he slips away. In the aftermath, a familiar voice addresses Eilif: the Accountant has come to collect on her accumulated debts. Recognizing she has no bargains left, Eilif offers a final warning-curse, declaring the Accountant now bears a debt and will someday foresee his own end without power to stop it.

In her final moments, Eilif notices a glint on the Accountant’s spectacles—marked with a letter W—before darkness closes over her. Her failure to deliver the blond man seals her fate: the Prince, the animator, remains at large; Gideon is still missing; and Eilif is consumed, her ledger finally called in.
