Overview
Stranded by fog, Alexis stops at the VFW and reconnects with her rescuer, Daniel. Learning of a bet to make her leave with someone, Alexis proposes a staged exit with Daniel to claim the money. Their playful chemistry grows as she discovers he’s the town’s modestly heroic mayor fostering a baby goat, and they walk out together before the serenade begins.
Summary
Alexis, delayed by thick fog after a funeral, stops at Wakan’s VFW to eat. Bartender Liz chats with her, mentions the town’s small size and tourist season, and greets her husband, Sheriff Jake, who briefly drops off a sweater. The bar is crowded with locals.
Alexis spots her earlier rescuer, Daniel, closing his tab to go feed “the kid.” Daniel warns her that a few men have a $100 bet to get her to leave with them, identifying Doug as the likely instigator who will soon produce a guitar. Alexis proposes that she and Daniel leave together so he can win the bet, insisting they split the money.
Liz vouches for Daniel and reveals he’s her cousin and the town’s mayor, also a volunteer fixture in Wakan. While they sell the ruse by talking, Alexis shares she’s passing through after her aunt’s funeral; Daniel notes the unusual fog. He clarifies “the kid” is Chloe, a baby goat he’s fostering for Doug, whose goat’s mother has mastitis.
Alexis and Daniel banter, and genuine attraction surprises Alexis after years off the dating scene. As Doug approaches with a guitar, Daniel takes Alexis’s hand and escorts her out, completing their plan and cementing their newfound connection.
