Medra observes houses’ colors, Catherine Mortis openly flaunting her status with thralls, and notices Lysander Orphos’ quiet poise and his sister Lunaya performing. Naveen plays a delicate flute solo in rehearsal, earning Medra’s praise and a respectful nod from Lysander.

Medra and Naveen talk privately: Naveen considers surprising Florence with his solo and confesses a long-standing crush since childhood. Medra urges him to take a chance and ask Florence to the Frostfire ball, despite his fear of risking their friendship and doubts about his future at Bloodwing.
