Overview
Medra confronts Blake about feeding at the brothel, and their argument erupts into a charged kiss that exposes their fraught attraction and his possessive claim. Blake returns Neville and withdraws. Back in the dorms, Medra and Florence debrief, decide to secretly return Professor Rodriguez’s book, and Medra secures Coregon’s dagger as Wintermark term begins.
Summary
In the tunnel beneath The Wandering Page, Medra confronts Blake for sneaking off to feed at a brothel. Blake counters that she recklessly followed him and taunts her for watching. Their argument escalates as Medra challenges highblood brutality and Blake’s control, while Blake insists she wants him and questions why he restrains his inner monster.
Provoked by Medra’s accusations and his own possessiveness, Blake abruptly kisses her. Medra, shocked, kisses him back before he breaks away and stalks off, leaving both unsettled. They return to the Dragon Court with Neville, the injured fluffin, and Blake tersely orders Medra to bring Neville to him if the pup worsens.
Later, Medra and Florence laugh over Blake having named the fluffin “Neville,” speculate why Neville keeps seeking Blake, and weigh whether Medra owes Blake thanks for saving her. Florence suggests Blake’s choice to feed from a willing sellblood signals restraint, complicating Medra’s view of him.
Medra withholds the kiss from Florence but proposes a dare: they will return Professor Rodriguez’s borrowed book the next day by having Florence distract him. Medra hides Coregon’s dagger and considers finding a sheath to shield Orcades from her activities. As Wintermark term begins and festivities loom, Medra drifts to sleep thinking of snow and dragons.
