Summary
Blake keeps his interest in Medra Pendragon hidden during a crowded refectory meal, reflecting on his deteriorating bond with Regan and the political convenience of their pairing. He notes Theo openly watching Vaughn Sabino, whose arm shows signs of recovery after Coregon’s assault, and recalls Coregon’s usefulness and duplicity.
Blake tries to pull Theo closer as his second, but Theo accuses Blake of complicity in Vaughn’s injury and resents Viktor’s mandate to keep him “in line.” Theo rejects Blake’s reassurance and leaves, exposing a fracture in their alliance.
When Quinn goads Regan about humiliating Medra in the coming Consort Games, Blake intervenes, orders Regan to toe the line, and invokes Viktor’s wrath to force compliance. Despite playing the doting mate to placate her, Blake’s internal monologue reveals his growing sexual fixation on Medra and his fear that Viktor might try to claim her.
