Chapter 27
Overview
Blake, reeling from Viktor’s abuse and humiliation, forces his way into Medra Pendragon’s mind, both to test her defenses and to satisfy jealousy and curiosity. He witnesses strange, powerful memories before an imperious inner presence expels him. In a shocking reversal, Medra penetrates Blake’s mind, defying limits on mortal thrallweave.
This power shift escalates their dangerous bond and hints at hidden forces within Medra that could upend Sangrathan rules and Viktor’s control.
Summary
From Blake’s perspective, he wrestles with guilt and vindictiveness as he rationalizes invading Medra Pendragon’s mind. Bruised by Viktor’s beating and humiliated by recent challenges, Blake frames the intrusion as a harsh lesson to strengthen Medra, even as he acknowledges the thrill and power it gives him.
Blake penetrates Medra’s defenses and sees disjointed, unfamiliar places, then a vivid recent memory: a silver-haired woman duels a near–highblood figure crackling with power, while a dark-haired man—bloodied—watches with fierce love for Medra. Jealousy spikes, driving Blake to dig deeper.
An older, imperious female voice interrupts in Blake’s head, chiding him for trespassing, and violently ejects him from Medra’s mind. Reeling, Blake realizes Medra hasn’t moved; instead, Medra is now inside Blake’s mind, an impossibility for a mortal by Sangrathan rules.
The scene ends with Blake recognizing the unprecedented breach: despite training under Rodriguez, Medra has somehow crossed a boundary of thrallweave, revealing a hidden, potent presence within her and overturning the power balance between them.
