Luther describes first meeting Diem’s mother as palace healer and covert Guardian leader. He partnered with her to save half-mortal children and support mortals, then discovered she spied on the royal family and threatened to expose his half-mortal blood. Despite this, he tolerated her nonviolent resistance and found solace in not fighting alone.

Diem admits she had joined the Guardians and aided their efforts; Luther reveals he had long suspected and is not angry, affirming his faith in Diem’s compassion and goals. When Diem panics that Vance stole her blood to breach palace bloodlocks, Luther explains bloodlocks require willingly given blood, nullifying the threat. He vows to deal with Vance if needed, while Diem wrestles with mercy versus ruthlessness. They exchange promises of unwavering loyalty.

Taran bursts in with Diem’s cleaned clothes, teasing them. After dressing, the group decides to remain hidden for the day and head toward Arboros City by dawn if safe. Diem leads foraging and survival lessons—berries, mushrooms, eggs, fishing, and basic medicines—lifting spirits and preparing them for the journey.
