After midnight, Acker materializes at the foot of Jo’s bed, revealing he has been near enough to influence or witness her dreams. Jo, enraged by the invasion and years of hurt, declares he and Irina will be escorted out at dawn and that he is no longer welcome in Maile.

Acker needles at Jo’s desire, claiming he can feel her through their Bond, then abruptly offers to pay tenfold for whatever price she bargained to aid Roison’s side. A knock interrupts.
