Acker descends into the dungeon, appalled by its filth and the presence of women and teens. He quietly gives Irina an apple and urges patience, then finds Zion shackled, slips him a hidden blade, and warns “soon,” recognizing Zion’s anger and lack of trust. On his way out, Acker gives an apple to a young prisoner, then surfaces to meet Hallis, who summons him to Edmond.

In the sitting room, Acker faces Edmond, Chryse, Lord Draken, Johannes, and others. Wren has been sidelined due to inflammatory messages, while Evelyn advances from the west. Edmond presents a “gift”: Vad, the traitor from Acker’s youth. Chryse delivered Vad as his pledge to the alliance, while each leader must provide a captive of value.

Edmond stages an initiation. Soldiers pin Vad to a table as Edmond lectures on Heir supremacy and “trade of gifts.” Using a hearthstone dagger and a rare slatstone, Edmond opens Vad’s jugular to draw out his magic. As Vad dies, he forces a final projection into Acker’s mind, revealing Irina’s identity in the dungeon, exposure of the rescue plot, his unintended role in the past ambush, and his last hope that Acker will kill everyone in that room. Acker silently vows to do so.

Edmond captures Vad’s writhing essence on the slatstone, dips it in Vad’s blood to release the magic, and hands the glass to Acker, compelling him to drink. Knowing refusal means ruin, Acker swallows the blood and feels the oracle magic take hold amid the council’s applause.

Chryse repeats the ritual on another captive for his own prize, confirming torture-begotten knowledge of magic locations. Reeling and sickened by the sanctioned murders and his coerced empowerment, Acker staggers out and vomits, his private resolve hardened against the regime that just claimed him.
