Chapter 45: Emmett
Overview
Emmett finds Julia safe with Parker, apologizes, and declares he’s quit the show. He publicly defies Richard, exposes the hidden camera, and shelters Julia.
Lawyer Maxwell deems the contract likely unenforceable due to the illegal camera and plans to secure evidence, positioning Emmett for a payout and leverage.
Summary
Emmett ignores Richard’s threatening texts and returns to his grandparents’ house, devastated that Julia has vanished. Opa reveals Julia is in the crawl space with Parker. Emmett finds Julia drunk but safe; they reconcile, and Emmett confirms he quit the show to protect them both.
Emmett carries Julia across the set in open defiance, glares at Richard, and covers the hidden cottage camera after telling it off. Back in his room, he holds the sleeping Julia and resolves to earn her trust, recognizing how profoundly she has changed him.
When Emmett’s contract lawyer, Maxwell, calls, he explains the contract is likely unenforceable due to producer misconduct, especially the illegal camera. Maxwell expects a payout and agrees to push for a recommendation for the location manager and explore help for a contestant. He instructs Emmett to guard the camera until he arrives to secure evidence.
