Chapter 3: Emmett

Emmett answers the farmhouse door, nervous about the dating show meeting. He is stunned to find Julia Silva—the woman he once helped on a cruise—standing there as the location manager. Memories of carrying her when she collapsed flash back, along with the sting that she left without a word.

Julia’s presence triggers Emmett’s resentment toward her brother, Theo, who just beat him at finals and intensified their rivalry. Emmett worries that Julia will tell Theo and his friend, inviting ridicule about Emmett starring in a reality dating show.

Outside the door, Emmett initially refuses to let Julia in, declaring he doesn’t want to work with a Silva. Julia counters, stressing her professionalism, need for the job, and that Emmett is just talent. She bluntly tells him to “buck the fuck up,” refusing to engage in his feud with Theo.

Their argument shifts to boundaries and trust. Julia promises not to disclose Emmett’s involvement, citing her NDA, and asks if he told anyone about their cruise incident. Emmett says no; Julia shares she only told a university counselor and moved on.

Relenting, Emmett lets Julia inside. He reflects on his larger plan: endure the show, win the WBRF title next season, then retire before the show airs, avoiding mockery, and return to a quieter life helping his grandparents’ farm—away from rivals and his critical father, Carl.
