Three | Anastasia
Overview
Director Skinner orders all athletes to a compulsory meeting, announcing a zero-tolerance policy and that Arena Two is unusable after major damage. Skating and hockey must share the remaining rink, threatening Anastasia’s regionals prep. Anastasia clashes with Coach Brady and meets hockey captain Nate Hawkins, who extends an olive branch despite Aaron’s hostility.
Summary
Anastasia’s carefully planned Friday implodes when Director of Sport David Skinner cancels all training and summons every athlete. In line, Ryan comforts her with jokes and snacks, urging her to loosen her grip on the planner. They sit with the basketball team as Anastasia stews over the disruption.
Onstage, Skinner delivers a long, patronizing lecture about athletes abusing their status. When he cites unplanned pregnancy as an example, football star Michael Fletcher storms out, offended on behalf of his family. Skinner concludes with a new zero-tolerance policy and dismisses all but the skating and hockey teams.
With coaches Brady and Faulkner present, Skinner announces Arena Two has sustained extensive damage, repairs will be delayed, and both teams must share one rink. Panic hits Anastasia as regionals loom in five weeks. She confronts Coach Brady, who insists they have no alternative and tells the team to regroup Monday.
As the hockey players disperse, Nate Hawkins, the hockey captain, approaches Anastasia. He apologizes for the situation, promises to help coordinate, and invites her to a party to foster goodwill. Anastasia remains skeptical and prickly, refusing to be charmed, just as Aaron arrives brusquely to extract her. Nate silently reminds her of the invite while Ryan waits outside to take her for food.
