Summary
Anastasia begins a telehealth session with Dr. Andrews, unsettled by his Seattle view that triggers homesickness. Probing reveals she misses her parents but feels relief when they don’t call because conversations center on skating. Dr. Andrews reframes their focus as support and urges boundaries: one call without skating talk.
They revisit her competition anxiety. With Aaron medically cleared, she feels lighter, yet she details how his attention can feel smothering and inconsistent. She recognizes a double standard in how Aaron treats her versus others and agrees to prioritize her well-being while remaining a supportive friend.
Turning to Nathan, Anastasia recounts cutting him off after he took blame for Aaron’s crash, despite teammates saying he confessed only to protect the hockey team. She admits Nathan “fixes” things and values being captain, which could explain his false confession, but she struggles with conflicting stories and her own growing feelings.
Dr. Andrews presses for honesty. Anastasia fears rejection if she reaches out, yet accepts that not knowing would be worse. She commits to three actions: set boundaries with her parents, protect her mental health around Aaron, and tell Nathan the truth about her feelings, acknowledging that people make mistakes.
As the session ends, Dr. Andrews challenges her to face the possibility of not qualifying. Anastasia gives her usual brave answer, and he wishes her well. The chapter closes with her determined to lead with honesty before tomorrow’s competition.
