Chapter 36
Overview
Naomi is arrested after the birthday party incident and booked for trespassing and obstructing an officer. Humiliated and frightened, she calls Ezra, who admonishes her but promises to intervene and anticipates release on recognizance. The arrest escalates the stakes of the custody and divorce battle, jeopardizing Naomi’s position.
Summary
Naomi is transported to the police station following the confrontation at Teddy’s party. Officers search her, take her purse, and process her for obstructing an officer and trespassing, including questioning, fingerprinting, and a mug shot. She repeatedly asks for her lawyer during booking.
Once allowed to make a call, Naomi phones Ezra, dreading his reaction but needing counsel. She explains the party, Jeremy’s accusations, and how the officer escalated the situation when she tried to leave. Ezra reminds her he warned against attending but agrees to help.
Ezra says he will make calls, come to the station, and expects she will likely be released on her own recognizance rather than needing bail. He underscores the seriousness of the arrest for her case. After hanging up, Naomi’s composure crumbles and she breaks down in tears.
