Chapter 57
Overview
After Naomi catches them, Jeremy stops hiding the relationship and introduces Veronica to Teddy. Teddy resists due to Naomi’s framing Veronica as a witch who stole Jeremy, but Veronica’s heartfelt gift and Jeremy’s open declaration of love soften him. The moment advances Jeremy and Veronica’s integration into Teddy’s life.
Summary
Now that Naomi has caught Veronica leaving Jeremy’s house, Jeremy and Veronica stop hiding their relationship. Jeremy proposes that Veronica meet Teddy, which makes Veronica anxious because the meeting could shape their future.
Veronica searches for a present, bypassing Legos and choosing a cherished stuffed elephant she once bought for her missing son, Dominic. Accepting Dominic may never return, she decides to give the elephant to Teddy as a meaningful gesture.
When Jeremy brings Teddy home from Naomi’s place, Teddy is wary and clings to Jeremy. Despite Veronica’s gentle approach, Teddy resists, revealing Naomi told him a “witch named Veronica” stole Jeremy from them.
Jeremy reassures Teddy that Veronica isn’t a witch and, to validate the relationship, tells Teddy he loves Veronica. The declaration makes their commitment feel more real to Veronica and reframes Veronica for Teddy.
Veronica offers the elephant again, explaining its importance. Teddy reconsiders, suggests maybe Veronica could be a “good witch,” accepts the gift, and hugs it tightly, signaling his tentative acceptance of Veronica.
