Overview
Ezra arrives at Jeremy’s house, worried about Naomi, and hears Veronica screaming from the cellar. As Ezra moves to investigate, Naomi realizes exposure will destroy her custody case. In a desperate bid to stop him, Naomi shoves Ezra at the cellar stairs, escalating her situation drastically.
Summary
Ezra unexpectedly arrives at Jeremy’s house, concerned after not finding Naomi at her apartment and seeing her car in the driveway. Naomi tries to deflect his questions, claiming Jeremy is on a business trip and asked her to watch Teddy, a story Ezra doubts given the recent protection order.
Naomi attempts to usher Ezra out, but Veronica’s muffled cries become clear as her duct tape loosens, prompting loud pleas for help. Ezra, alarmed, follows the sound toward the cellar despite Naomi’s efforts to block him.
At the cellar door, Ezra insists on going down as Veronica’s screams confirm someone is below. Naomi recognizes that discovery would mean police involvement, jail, and losing any chance at custody of Teddy.
In a panicked, decisive move to prevent Ezra from seeing Veronica tied up, Naomi places her hands on his back and shoves him hard at the top of the cellar stairs, choosing immediate concealment over the legal consequences.
