Chapter 6

Jeremy tells Naomi he wants a divorce, contradicting her belief they are happy. He admits the renovation story was a ploy to get her to move out, speaking calmly while Naomi spirals, suspects another woman, and demands an explanation he won’t give.

Jeremy maintains there is no one else, closes his briefcase, and outlines a mediated split due to their prenup. He asserts ownership of the house he bought before they met and offers that Naomi can stay at his late parents’ apartment, which is also his property.

Naomi pleads to discuss their issues and suggests marriage counseling; Jeremy rejects it as “too late.” His refusal and earlier hesitation when asked about someone else deepen Naomi’s suspicion that he is hiding something.

When Jeremy moves to collect Teddy, Naomi blocks him, insisting their son should stay with her if there’s a divorce. Jeremy argues Teddy should sleep in his own bed to minimize disruption and frames Naomi’s resistance as harmful to Teddy.

Weighing Teddy’s difficulty sleeping in unfamiliar places, Naomi relents: she will pick Teddy up daily and spend afternoons and dinners together, but Teddy will sleep at home. Jeremy thanks her for prioritizing their son.

Privately, Naomi views the arrangement as a chance to keep contact and uncover what Jeremy is hiding. She resolves not to accept the divorce and to fight for their marriage.
