Chapter Ten: Holden

The Rocinante adjusts to carrying a documentary crew—Monica, Okju, Clip, and Cohen—restricted at first but increasingly present. A shared Saturday dinner turns tense when Monica references Amos’ past, prompting the ship’s crew to confront Holden about privacy and the need to keep attention focused on him.

Holden agrees to be the primary subject, shielding Naomi, Amos, and Alex. That night, Miller’s apparition visits Holden, speaking cryptically about danger and death, intensifying Holden’s fear and resolve to hide these visions from the film crew. Naomi comforts him, and they agree to keep the haunting secret.

In the following weeks, Holden cooperates with interviews while the others give shallow answers. Cohen’s sonar-based modeling produces vivid recreations that unsettle Holden, especially Eros imagery. Despite cordial routines, the pressure of performance and secrecy weighs on Holden.

Near the Ring, the Rocinante catches up to the OPA’s Behemoth. Alex and Holden identify extensive new weaponry, and the Roci’s projections suggest the Behemoth’s hull may not withstand simultaneous heavy-gun fire. Meanwhile, Naomi notes a worsening comms memory leak; Amos reports a minor power issue, both framed as trivial to reassure the visitors.

Monica probes Holden about his OPA ties; he downplays any conflict as the ships exchange nonthreatening ranging pings. Holden outwardly projects calm, but privately he remains anxious about Miller’s messages and the dangers awaiting at the Ring.
