In the mess, Melba and Soledad discuss new data: a ship and probes inside the Ring have been slowed and diverted, intensifying superstition. Soledad confides her father died on Eros; Melba reveals Julie’s fate. Their talk raises spiritual fears that the Ring holds the dead, contrasting with Melba’s colder, name-and-legacy worldview she keeps to herself.

Ren privately calls Melba to a storage bay about an anomaly: air filters on the Seung Un show high-energy nitroethenes consistent with moldable explosives. Melba deflects, but Ren insists security must be told. Realizing exposure would end her mission, Melba weighs killing him, planning how to hide the body and implications for witnesses.
