Gray collects Wren and offers his bed while he takes the couch. Over strong valley wine, Gray notices her large bloodmark. When he mentions Jayde Valence’s reported suicide, Wren admits she incited it, revealing her Mod ability as an inciter—unknown to the Company. Gray processes the risk and their shared history.

They revisit Wren’s past with Captain Cross Redden. Gray admits reporting their affair to protect her; Wren downplays Cross’s involvement in her escape and claims Xavier acted alone. They discuss Lyddie’s betrayal after seeing Wren’s bloodmark, leaving Wren saddened but resolute.

Before bed, Gray urges complete honesty during disclosure, though Wren plans selective truths. Wren asks if he trusts the Uprising; Gray says yes, confirming Kallister voted to rescue Jim but was overruled. He warns that a vote could send Wren back to the wards if she gives the council reason.
