The Mind receives Ceelander’s transmitted thought-patterns and relocates them to a buried, insulated chamber tied into its own planetary network. There, it expands its attention to examine the intricate signals, recognizing them as a message and a set of instructions that could let it find and understand Ceelander.

As the Mind maps the shivering patterns, it notes fragmentary alien memories that make no sense in isolation. It realizes that piecemeal copying fails because Ceelander’s identity only exists in the aggregate of connections. Tracing deeper links, the Mind discovers that the outward display is just a model connected to a more original, complex interaction net—the true kernel of Ceelander’s self.

Grasping why Ceelander sent this construct despite prior hostilities, the Mind sees a possibility for understanding between them. It accepts the challenge: to touch the construct lightly enough to preserve it while bridging the gap between “me” and “you.”

With extreme delicacy, the Mind aligns its own signals with Ceelander’s core network, allowing the boundaries between them to blur at the edges. It then initiates first contact, touching Ceelander’s thoughts with its own.
