Chapter 14
Overview
Logan anxiously waits for Grace to respond, then receives a flirtatious text from her best friend, Ramona. He forwards it to Grace and asks to talk. Grace reads it before dawn, feels betrayed and numb, refuses contact, and decides to move up a visit to her mother in Paris, signaling retreat and upheaval.
Summary
After midnight, Logan lies awake, obsessing over Grace’s silence and resisting the urge to send another message. When his phone finally buzzes, it’s a flirtatious text from Ramona, Grace’s best friend, offering to “comfort” him. Disgusted, Logan forwards the message to Grace with a note and asks if they can talk.
Grace wakes at five-thirty, reeling from the previous night’s rejection. She sees Logan’s messages and Ramona’s text from shortly after Ramona came home, confirming a painful betrayal from her closest friend.
Instead of exploding, Grace feels cold and exhausted. She refuses Logan’s request to talk and avoids confronting Ramona, who is still asleep. Seeking distance and support, Grace calls her mother in Paris and asks to move up her visit, deciding to leave sooner than planned.
