Chapter 27

Overview

After a demoralizing practice, Coach offers Logan a chance to practice with the Providence Bruins. Logan turns it down to honor his commitment to help his family after graduation, deepening his internal conflict. He and Grace make their relationship official, grow more intimate, navigate first jealousy, and bond during a playful call with her mother. Logan ends the chapter recognizing he’s falling in love.

Summary

Logan leaves a frustrating practice, alarmed by weak defensive play and the team’s poor prospects. Called into Coach Jensen’s office, he learns the Providence Bruins want him to practice with their development team. The offer ignites his lifelong dream, but it collides with his promise to help his family after graduation.

Torn, Logan refuses the opportunity despite Coach’s warning he may regret it. He goes to Grace’s dorm and explains, affirming that family obligations come first. Seeking comfort, they watch a movie, talk, and agree they’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend, strengthening their commitment.

They escalate their physical intimacy; Grace pleasures Logan while avoiding sex due to her period, and he is overwhelmed by the intensity and trust between them. Later, when Grace can’t attend his preseason game because of a class assignment with a male partner, Logan feels a new sting of jealousy and claims their exclusivity.

A surprise Skype from Grace’s mom, Josie, turns into a spirited introduction. After privately warning Logan not to hurt Grace, Josie’s warmth breaks the tension. When the call pauses, Logan pranks Grace with a faux overshare, leading to laughter and playfulness that cements their bond. In the quiet that follows, Logan realizes he may be falling in love.
