Chapter 30
Overview
Logan and Grace’s weekend cements their intimacy, and a relaxed brunch with Garrett and Hannah reassures Grace about past insecurities. Meeting Grace’s father goes smoothly, earning approval. On the drive back, Logan shares a painful story about his father’s alcoholism and his choice to stay loyal, prompting Grace to realize she loves him.
Summary
Logan and Grace spend a blissful, intimate weekend together, growing increasingly comfortable and playful. When Garrett and Hannah return to the house unexpectedly, the four share an impromptu omelet brunch. Grace momentarily feels insecure about Logan’s former crush, but Logan clarifies he wanted the kind of love and ease Garrett and Hannah share—not Hannah herself—reassuring Grace.
After a nap, Grace invites Logan to dinner with her father. Logan, recognizing it as a meaningful step, agrees. At the house, the meal is warm and lighthearted, highlighted by spirited hockey-versus-football banter that ends in mutual respect. Grace is relieved that her father approves.
Driving home, talk shifts to their families. Grace praises her divorced parents’ friendship, which prompts Logan to reveal a formative memory: when Logan’s mother shattered her ankle, his father disappeared for three days instead of going to the hospital or picking up Logan and Jeff. Logan explains his father’s alcoholism—how he can be loving when sober yet unreliable when drinking.
Grace argues that continued support may enable addiction, suggesting tough love. Logan counters that abandoning his father would repeat the very selfishness he rejects; he intends to help while encouraging sobriety. His compassion and resolve move Grace deeply. She recognizes the strength of his loyalty and realizes she loves him.
