CHAPTER 94: GRAYSON
Overview
Grayson confronts Kent Trowbridge in public, using Kent’s connection to the judge who signed the FBI warrant to isolate and intimidate him. Grayson reveals that he and his brothers have uncovered the financial trail, restored Acacia’s stolen trust money, and positioned Kent for legal and social ruin.
The exchange also exposes Kent’s deeper motive: wounded entitlement over Acacia and a plan that would have manipulated Savannah, and possibly Acacia, through marriage and financial pressure. Grayson reclaims his role as protector of his newly recognized family, even if Gigi and Savannah do not yet trust him.
Summary
Grayson decides that Kent Trowbridge is not a complex problem and, after two days of work with his brothers, gathers what he needs for a confrontation. He chooses Kent’s racquetball court because Kent is playing with a federal judge, the same judge who signed the FBI warrant used against Acacia’s home.
Grayson appears in an expensive suit and watches Kent and the judge through the glass until they stop playing. Grayson pointedly notes the coincidence that the judge knows Kent after signing a warrant involving Grayson’s younger sisters’ home. The implication unsettles the judge, who leaves after Kent tries to dismiss the encounter.
Once alone with Kent, Grayson reveals that he has hired forensic accountants and has obtained key information: the account where Acacia’s stolen trust money was transferred, the Singapore bank involved, and even the combination to Kent’s safe. Grayson makes clear that he and his brothers have accessed enough evidence to expose Kent without directly admitting illegal action.
Grayson explains that Acacia’s inheritance has been restored to her trust, which will prompt the FBI to trace who moved the money. He also hints at incriminating emails and warns that Kent’s social and legal connections will evaporate. Kent blusters, threatens arrest, and tries to deflect toward Grayson’s father, but Grayson remains controlled.
As Grayson leaves, Kent erupts and reveals his resentment over Acacia rejecting him and choosing Grayson’s father. Grayson identifies Kent’s plan: pressure Savannah into believing marriage to Kent’s son could save the family, knowing Acacia would likely sacrifice herself by accepting Kent first. Grayson ends the confrontation by declaring that no one hurts his family, and Kent’s repeated phone calls suggest the consequences are already beginning.
