CHAPTER 49: GRAYSON

Grayson, Acacia, Savannah, and Gigi return to the bank to access the safe-deposit box connected to Tobias Davenport. Grayson expects Acacia might exclude the others, but Acacia lets them come inside. Acacia presents identification and the key Savannah had given her, unaware that Grayson previously swapped in a decoy.

The bank manager takes the group to the vault, where Acacia inserts the decoy key alongside the bank’s key. The lock will not turn, confirming Grayson’s plan, but Grayson feels a stab of guilt as the manager begins to explain that Acacia cannot proceed without the right key.

Savannah interrupts by producing a second key on a chain beneath her shirt, matching Gigi’s. Savannah reveals that she found the key with the ID, surprising both Gigi and Grayson. Grayson realizes he failed to anticipate Savannah’s hidden move because he let emotion and distraction interfere.

Acacia uses Savannah’s key, and the safe-deposit box opens. After the manager leaves them alone, Acacia lifts the lid while her daughters and Grayson watch. The first thing Grayson sees inside is a photograph of himself, turning the search toward a deeply personal revelation.
