CHAPTER 55: GRAYSON

Grayson returns to the hotel lobby, where the manager apologizes for an earlier misunderstanding involving Gigi. The manager tries to offer special treatment by clearing the pool, but Grayson steps outside and discovers the pool is occupied by Eve.

Eve is in the deep end, and Grayson notices her wound while fighting the instinct to comfort her. Their exchange about pain turns into a challenge: Eve suggests Grayson does not truly believe pain is unrelated to weakness, and Grayson hardens himself, deciding she will not manipulate him again.

When Grayson tries to leave, Mattias Slater blocks his path. Grayson assesses Slater as fast, armed, and unafraid, and when Grayson heads for a side gate, the click of a gun stops him because Eve is climbing out of the pool. Eve confronts Grayson directly, insisting they are both liars, while Grayson denies any connection between them.

Eve probes Grayson about Gigi and Savannah, framing herself as someone who understands what it is like to enter a family from the outside. Grayson warns her, but Eve defends her choice to become Vincent Blake’s heir, admitting that although she gained fortune and power, she is alone and must constantly prove herself or risk losing everything. She has Slater reveal that only one of Blake’s men is loyal to her.

Eve presses further, implying she knows about what Grayson and his sisters found in the safe-deposit box and making clear that she intends to use information as leverage. She also reminds Grayson that she knows his father is not missing and that only an old man’s promise is keeping her from exposing the people responsible. Grayson responds by threatening to destroy Eve if she comes after Avery or his sisters, and Eve ends the confrontation by asking whether that threat is a promise.
