CHAPTER 6: JAMESON
Overview
Jameson watches Grayson leave after an unexplained call, but his chance to investigate is interrupted by a delivery meant for him. The calling card from Ian Johnstone-Jameson, marked with an address and a 2 PM time, gives Jameson a new mystery to chase.
The chapter shifts the focus from Nash and Libby's celebration to two separate family-related mysteries: Grayson's private emergency and Jameson's unexpected summons in London.
Summary
After Grayson abruptly leaves to take an urgent call, Jameson jokes about seeing real emotion from him, though Jameson is both curious and worried. Xander offers to eavesdrop, but Jameson deflects, and the group shifts to discussing the previous night's celebration and the paparazzi waiting outside.
Oren reports that the British tabloids are creating trouble and that two security men are patrolling the front. Avery refuses to alter her schedule because of them, and when Jameson offers to distract the photographers, Avery declines with a brief, teasing kiss before leaving for her meetings with Oren.
Jameson remains on the terrace after Xander goes inside, trying not to dwell on the stillness around him. Grayson returns carrying a suitcase and announces that he has to leave for personal business. Jameson, intrigued by Grayson's evasiveness, starts to follow.
Before Jameson can pursue Grayson, Oren calls and assures him Avery is safe. Oren explains that one of his men has intercepted the porter, who has brought a delivery specifically for Jameson.
In the hall, the porter presents a silver tray holding a single calling card. The card bears the name Ian Johnstone-Jameson and the address 9 King's Gate Terrace; on the back, someone has handwritten only a time: 2 PM. The mysterious summons captures Jameson's full attention and opens a new thread of intrigue.
