Evangeline turns despite warning herself not to and sees Jacks enter the magical forest party. He appears colder and less human than before, with dark blue hair and an aristocratic disguise that hides his identity as a Fate. LaLa identifies him as Lord Jacks, a close confidant of Prince Apollo, and says he will not help Evangeline win Apollo.

As Jacks moves through the party, everyone watches him but no one fears him. LaLa shares gossip that Jacks may have been exiled to the North after trouble with a southern princess, possibly because she broke his heart. Evangeline wonders if the princess was Donatella and whether this explains Donatella’s earlier warning about causing a war in the North.

Evangeline considers fleeing while Jacks is out of sight, but leaving would disappoint the empress and cost her best chance to meet Apollo. When Kristof Knightlinger approaches to interview Evangeline and LaLa, Evangeline fears another damaging article. LaLa, who admits she enjoys appearing in gossip despite having little chance with Apollo, offers to scare Evangeline away as a cover, and Evangeline hurries off.

While escaping Kristof, Evangeline nearly runs into Jacks. Jacks mocks Evangeline for not marrying Luc, and Evangeline accuses Jacks of ruining her future with Luc by having him mauled by a wolf. Jacks denies arranging any wolf attack, then cruelly suggests Evangeline abandoned Luc because of his scars, while Evangeline keeps quiet about Luc choosing Marisol and disappearing.

Jacks abruptly grabs Evangeline’s neck and hair in front of the party, creating the appearance of a scandalous intimate moment. Evangeline protests that she promised to kiss three other people, not Jacks, but Jacks says he is making her more interesting so Apollo will notice her. The watching crowd begins whispering, and Kristof starts taking notes.

Jacks reveals that Apollo is the first person he wants Evangeline to kiss. He cuts his finger with a jeweled dagger and paints Evangeline’s lips with his blood, which tastes dangerously sweet and magical. Jacks warns Evangeline not to lick it off, then tells her that if she does not kiss Prince Apollo before the party ends, she will die.
