Evangeline reaches Wolf Hall terrified but determined to carry out her plan. Memories of Apollo climbing the walls to visit her and of his death nearly freeze her in place, but she forces herself onward through a hidden door that opens with her blood.

Inside, Evangeline finds the corridors brighter and more exposed than she remembered, but most people are at supper. She slips into the room beside her former bedchamber, hoping it is now Tiberius's suite, and confirms from the lived-in smells that someone has been staying there.

Evangeline cannot find a bedside table, so she chooses the liquor table as the place Tiberius is most likely to notice the bottle. Her hands shake as she leaves the bottle there, then she flees before she can be tempted to drink it herself.

In the hall, Evangeline runs into Marisol. Evangeline considers fleeing, but Marisol sees her first, embraces her, and warns that guards are close and that Tiberius believes Evangeline murdered Apollo. To avoid capture and to protect the planted bottle from discovery, Evangeline follows Marisol into her former bedroom, which now belongs to Marisol.

Marisol says Tiberius wanted her close and offers to disguise Evangeline in one of her gowns. Evangeline notices hints of jealousy beneath Marisol's polished princessly appearance and realizes that simply leaving the cure is not enough; Evangeline needs answers. Evangeline confronts Marisol about the spellbooks and accuses Marisol of giving Tiberius a love potion like the one used on Luc, leaving Marisol visibly shaken.
