Summary
Aurora, dressed in an icy blue gown that conceals her Sun mark, rides with Elsie and Ina to Reverie for a lavish public wedding. The village center glitters with lights, flowers, and flames, and the crowd’s joy both comforts and overwhelms Aurora, who never wanted to be a spectacle.
Processing down the aisle, Aurora realizes she is being reduced to “the Starmaker’s bride,” her true self eclipsed by a false narrative. Meeting the Starmaker’s gaze, she sees both their lack of choice and his once-mortal humanity. Anger and panic mount as she refuses to surrender her story to a lie.
At the platform, Aurora pulls away, tells the Starmaker she cannot do this despite Elsie’s healing and her move to the castle, then bolts. She sprints to the sleigh amid rising commotion and escapes into the night, feeling liberated even as she anticipates consequences.
