37: Asleep in a Haze of Lavender
Overview
Aurora returns from her perilous ascent and collapses into sleep, briefly waking to a vivid purple flash she dismisses as a dream. As she sleeps, brilliant lavender northern lights fill the sky. Their appearance suggests a response or shift after Aurora’s plea to the Sun, hinting at coming change.
Summary
After finishing her tale to the Sun and enduring a harrowing vertical-sled descent, Aurora returns to the castle and collapses into bed, planning only a brief rest before drawing in the light again. A sudden, vivid purple flare streaks across the sky and startles her awake.
Aurora rushes to the balcony, hope swelling as she scans the darkness for more signs. When nothing follows, her optimism ebbs. Concluding it must have been a dream, she retreats to her bed and burrows beneath the blankets.
As Aurora sleeps, the sky erupts again—not just a flash, but brilliant northern lights that bathe her room in lavender. Unaware beneath her heavy quilt, she misses the spectacle, leaving the lights to blaze unanswered outside her window.
