2. Theon
Overview
The Tribunal debates whether Tessa, not Fae yet immensely powerful, can remain Theon’s Source. Rulers argue fairness and danger while acknowledging her Achaz power and possible second lineage. Kyra invites Tessa’s voice; Tessa chooses to stay with Theon. Rordan condemns her suppression bands. The council withdraws without a verdict.
Summary
Theon faces the six ruling Lords and Ladies while Tessa sits behind him with Luka and Axel. Luna Candra declares Tessa cannot be a Source because she is not Fae; Valter argues a bond exists and replacing her disadvantages Theon. Talk turns dark when Luna implies killing Tessa to sever the bond, which Theon challenges as killing a Legacy without proof.
Rordan Jove concedes Tessa shows Achaz power but not exclusively; Kyra Aithne notes her storm-summoning exceeds Achaz light. Theon admits they do not yet know Tessa’s full abilities. Axel defends Tessa regarding the Pantheon damage, citing widespread panic. Political stakes sharpen as Rordan proposes housing Tessa at the Pantheon, while Valter refuses to leave Theon without a cultivating bond.
Pressed about the bond’s nature, Theon concedes there is “something,” though he cannot compare it. As arguments escalate, Kyra silences the room with fire and suggests treating Tessa as Legacy by hearing her opinion. Theon notices the cloaked Keeper observing from the balcony.
Tessa is called forward. She bows rather than kneels at Kyra’s insistence. Rordan asks about her state and training; Tessa reveals she has been banded since the Emerging. Rordan rebukes Theon for suppressing such power for a week. Plans to train immediately after the hearing are stated, and Theon accepts fault.
Kyra asks Tessa directly whether she wishes to remain with Theon. After initial deflection, Tessa chooses to stay, citing a need for constancy amid upheaval and acknowledging she will still receive a Source Mark despite being beyond it. With no further facts offered, the rulers withdraw to deliberate, leaving Theon stunned by Tessa’s choice and newly wary of the Keeper’s interest.
