Overview
Theon and Luka covertly take Tessa across the Wynfell to relieve the bands suppressing her power. Tessa’s storm magic explodes, then aligns with Theon’s darkness, hinting at profound compatibility and scale. A masked sect, the Augury, ambushes them, claiming Tessa endangers the realm; Luka’s dragon form routs them. Theon identifies the attackers as the Augury, escalating the wider conflict.
Summary
Theon and Luka take Tessa from the Acropolis at night, despite her reluctance and fear of Theon’s father. During the drive, Theon informs her about upcoming Source classes and promises to find alternate instructors. They reveal the plan: remove her suppressing bands on a secluded Arius-side bank of the Wynfell so her power can vent safely. Tessa mistrusts Theon but accepts because their goals align.
Theon removes the first band; light flares violently as Tessa struggles to hold back. After a warning to surrender control, he removes the second band and her storm magic erupts—rain, lightning, and gales. Luka’s dragon fire contains collateral damage while Theon threads his darkness into her light, guiding it. Their powers merge intensely, giving Tessa a fleeting sense of control and deepening their volatile bond.
When the bands must go back on, Tessa’s distress returns. As she steps away, a masked assailant seizes her with a dagger, accusing Theon of upsetting Devram’s balance and insisting Tessa must die to prevent a larger catastrophe. Theon’s shadows save her and kill the attacker, but dozens of similarly masked figures surround them, denouncing the Theon–Tessa pairing as realm-ending.
Luka arrives in full dragon form, incinerating the assailants and shielding Theon and Tessa. Two wolves watch from the trees and depart unharmed, unsettling but nonthreatening. With the immediate threat gone, Luka shifts back, and they return to the Acropolis. Theon identifies the attackers as the Augury, confirming a dangerous faction now moves against them.
