Overview
After returning to the Acropolis, Tessa, Theon, and Luka debrief the Augury attack and argue over the group’s beliefs and Tessa’s unknown heritage. Theon presses to test how Tessa’s power refills and to manage political pressure. Private tensions flare as Theon insists their bond is inescapable, leaving Tessa conflicted and unsatisfied.
Summary
On the drive back to the Acropolis, Tessa wrestles with the terrifying freedom of her unleashed power and the consuming pull toward Theon’s magic. Luka mocks Theon’s chosen name for their attackers, the Augury, while Tessa fixates on how their powers sought each other when her bands were removed.
At the townhouse, they discuss the Augury: a theorized group treating the Revelation Decree as prophecy and claiming to protect Devram. Tessa questions why they targeted her and whether her Legacy status means she needs blood to replenish power. Theon proposes testing how her reserves refill; Luka worries the bands may block it and insists they defer strategy until Axel is present.
As they head upstairs, Tessa presses Theon about the attackers’ cryptic line regarding the Everlasting War. Theon, frustrated by his own uncertainty, deflects and orders her to eat. Left with his scattered research on gods and Chaos, Tessa notes implications that more than the Firsts emerged, hinting at broader mysteries.
When Theon returns, Tessa refuses to debrief with him, stung by earlier exclusions and looming plans to Match others. Theon counters that any future unions will not erase their existing bond or obsession. Shadows curl over Tessa as the attraction intensifies; he claims he wants everything she gives, even her hate, and insists he always knows what she needs.
Tessa pushes back, arguing he hates the loss of control, not her. The confrontation turns intimate as his magic maps her desire, but she breaks away for a shower. Alone, she attempts release, recalling their merged powers, yet finds it inadequate—evidence that the bond’s pull remains unresolved.
